Bentley Continental GTC V8

The V8 engine gives the Bentley Continental GTC Convertible a noticeably different character. It may be less powerful than the big W12 but you wouldn’t know it behind the wheel and the fuel economy improvements are worth the drop in cylinders. It behaves just as a big V8 bruiser should: burbling along at low revs turning to a tuneful bark when the pushed harder. The 4-litre twin turbo engine is a development of the Audi S8 unit and has a clever system which cuts off 4 cylinders when the engine is idling. These jump straight back in almost instantaneously when required. The engine feels more sporting to drive than the refined W12 and suits the Bentley GTC well.

Bentley Continental GTC V8 S

The V8 powered version of the Bentley Convertible gets the sports treatment with the Bentley Continental GTC V8 S. Power and torque are boosted by around 5% over the already plentiful supply but more importantly the suspension is lowered and firmed up and the electronics have been tweaked to give a more involving drive. The result closely matches performance figures from the W12 but with a lighter weight and more agile handling. Steering feedback is improved and the ride suitably sporting while still providing the comfort one should expect of a Bentley.Various body enhancements, new 20 inch wheels and badging differentiate the S from the standard V8 while the roof lining gets a contrasting centre stripe and knurled chrome detailing complete the interior style. Equipment levels are impressive as is the extensive selection of options.
