Epic Torq EV

While it may look like a 3 wheeled version of the KTM X-Bow the Epic Torq is an electric vehicle designed to offer fun low emissions transportation. It is built in the United States by a California company who also build other types of electric transport such as boats and all-terrain vehicles. Clearly at home in the California climate and may be impractical elsewhere.

Power comes from Lithium Ion Phosphate batteries in 48 or 60 cell configurations. These pass energy to a 9″ /230mm Series DC motor and on to a limited slip differential. The car’s construction is a little less innovative, using a tried and tested steel frame covered in fibre-glass body panels. The performance is said to be both exhilarating and guilt free. The Torq EV is wider than most three wheeled cars with the aim of improving cornering speed although perhaps at the cost of agility. The from suspension is a racing-inspired inboard setup while the rear end looks much like a motorcycle. Range is limited to between 80-100 miles depending on driving style and the battery configuration. Charging from a mains outlet takes between 6-8 hours.
