The next generation smaller BMW Convertible has been unveiled. The BMW 2-Series Convertible is the successor to the 1-Series droptop but joins the German brand’s slightly confusing new naming strategy.

The latest high performance 4 seat convertible from BMW will be called the BMW M4 Convertible but don’t worry, it couldn’t be more M3 if it tried. The 4-Series is still based on the platform of the 3-Series car but the name is used tho separate the more sporting coupe and convertible models.

BMW have officially released the first images of the new 4-Series Convertible which will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The BMW 4-Series replaces the 3-Series Coupe and Convertible with the aim of setting these more sporting cars apart from the 4 door 3-Series cars.

While the first generation BMW 4-Series Convertible is yet to be revealed the newly released Coupe details hint to what the drop-top version may hold. The 4-Series is BMW’s rebranding of what was previously sold as the 3-Series Coupe and Convertible.

Convertible drivers didn’t get the chance to buy a drop-top BMW 1M and with the one year limited edition of coupes now sold, the German brand has seen fit to introduce a baby version. This time it is available as both a coupe and convertible and despite the lack of an M-Sport badge this is a serious performance model.
