The Jaguar F-Type Roadster prototype made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend. The still camouflaged convertible sports car was driven up the famous hill-climb event by Jaguar’s Head of Vehicle Integrity, Mike Cross.

Mazda unveiled two special Mazda MX-5 Miata roadsters at the 2012 Leipzig Motor Show. One a supercharged performance model and the other a high-spec’d limited edition.

Mazda have Fiat Group (the owners of the Alfa Romeo brand) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding that the platform of the next generation Mazda MX-5 Miata will be used for the development and manufacture of roadsters by both Mazda and Alfa Romeo brands. Mazda and Fiat have also agreed to discuss further opportunities for co-operation in Europe.

The Daihatsu Copen is to finally end its production run with a 10th Anniversary Edition. The long lived roadster has an enthusiastic following thanks to it’s cheeky personality and fun but frugal handling. The final edition of this convertible car is limited to just 500.

A new (even) hotter version of the Audi TT RS Roadster is due to be launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Audi have squeezed an extra 20 horses out of the characterful five cylinder engine and hefty TFSI turbo to make the TT RS plus.

There has been talk of a family of small mid-engined roadsters from Volkswagen for some time and with the car now close to completion it seems to have fallen from favour among the companies senior executives. The car which was launched as the VW BlueSport Roadster concept in Detroit in 2009 is aimed to be a super-efficient low-carbon sports car.

Due to get an official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March the new Porsche Boxster is a substantial update of the highly regarded Roadster. In an unusual step for the often conservative German brand, the new design is clearly different to previous cars; taking inspiration from the Porsche Carrera GT supercar and 918 concept car.

The final R230 Mercedes SL roadster has rolled off the production line marking the end of production. In total 169,434 of the Mercedes SL R230 were built. It was a car that over its 10 year lifetime re-wrote the luxury sportscar handbook with its build quality, reliability and clever folding hardtop.
